Paestum can be easily reached by car from Salerno, just taking the highway A3 Salerno-Reggio-Calabria, go out at Battipaglia, take the 18 road and get out at Capaccio Scalo; also there are frequently direct trains to Reggio Calabria continue to train stations Capaccio and Paestum, taking about half an hour.

 

Around 600 B.C. the Greek colony of Sybaris gave birth, to the south of estuary of the Sele,to the city of Poseidonia. Palinuro is one of the main tourist destinations of Campania. Its unspoiled coastline offers visitors beautiful stretches of beach and many small bays, hidden coves and sea caves.

Actually the beautiful sea caves are a great attraction for many tourists who come to visit them every summer.

The Cave Azzurra gets its name from to the play of light created by a duct 20 meters of depth that allows the penetration of sunlight.

The Silver Cave, instead, gets its name from the silvery reflections caused by limestone deposited on the bottom, while the Blood Cave gets its name from a small red seaweed.

The Cave of the Monks shows to the many visitors limestone formations that take the form of monks in prayer. Do not miss a visit to the Natural Arch, a huge arch of rock that leans out towards the sea, and the small bay behind that called Infreschi bay.

LA CERTOSA DI PADULA

It is one of the largest and most important monastic sites of Europe, declared by Unesco ‘World Heritage Site’.

The birth of Padula dates back to the IX-X century, when Saracen invasions ended, and people who had taken refuge in the hills, preferred to settle on there, near to the consular road, where it still stands the town.

At the founding of the site of Certosa Basilian monks contributed, as evidenced by the Church of San Nicola to Women and the ruins of the ancient monastery of St. Nicholas at Torone.
